Miaoli County(苗栗縣) -Zhunan(竹南)-Toufen(頭份) Twin Cities Blue-Green Connection Plan

  • Execution Schedule:2018. 07.31~2020.09.05
Execution Schedule:2018. 07.31~2020.09.05

Zhunan(竹南)-Toufen(頭份) Sports Park is the green core of Zhunan Township(竹南鎮) and Toufen City(頭份市), as well as the green living room of the city. It welcomes visitors and residents from both the railway hub (Zhunan(竹南) Railway Station) and the road transport thub (Toufen(頭份) Interchange Road). In order to improve the city’s overall quality of life, show the value and spirit of the future town, and interpret the space and landscape, an urban park of local culture, nature, design, and space efficiency was created on the 18.6-hectare site, with full energy through forward-looking planning methods and different aspects of design introduction.

The scope of this plan is the area surrounded by Huanshi Road(環市路), Zhongyang Road(中央路), and Ziqiang Road(自強路). With Zhunan(竹南)-Toufen(頭份) Sports Park as the core, in view of the two adjacent urban planning areas of Zhunan Township(竹南鎮) and Toufen City(頭份市), the whole district is integrated with the green belt and pedestrian spaces. The project scope of the plan is the transformation of Zhunan(竹南)-Toufen(頭份) Park. The overall landscape design concept aims to improve the internal conservation of the park and enhance the quality of life of the surrounding environment, with "Park 2.0" as the main body and "5OD" as the main axis of each zone, which is interwoven with each axis.

  • Plan background and site scope map

The overall landscape design concept aims to improve the internal conservation of the park and enhance the quality of life of the surrounding environment, with "Park 2.0" as the main body and "5OD" as the main axis of each zone, which is interwoven with each axis.

The 5OD main axis extends from Park 2.0 as the main body, forming multiple landscape fields and activity spaces, integrating the relationship between the surrounding environment and residential space configuration, building the ring garden trail to connect each field space, and providing leisure water, activity lawns, and shady spaces and squares to create a rich landscape park.

  1. The traffic-oriented (TOD) moving line linkage takes "people" as the main role of the urban space and considers the blocks, footpaths, roads, and stations as activity spaces for people to communicate and interact.

  2. The user-oriented (UOD) diversified park considers the convenience and comfort needs of people with mobility difficulties through its user-friendly and barrier-free inclusive environment planning and universal design.

  3. The green-oriented (GOD) double-city green garden, with a highly connected green belt or green axis to construct the urban green network system, builds good park green spaces and the green belt network by improving and connecting urban greening.

  4. The resilience-oriented (ROD) green living room contributes to moderate climate regulation, disaster prevention, and refuge in the city.

  5. The culture-oriented (COD) arts and culture design gradually guides and spreads to part of the park via the space elements of Miaobei(苗北) Arts and Culture Center, integrates the artistic and cultural resources of Miaobei(苗北) life circle, and improves the local cultural literacy and artistic atmosphere.

The Zhunan(竹南)-Toufen(頭份) area has the beauty of Matsu Temple old street and Toufen(頭份) Yimin Temple(義民廟). The overflow of population from the science park increases the regional population, while improving the quality and level of citizens. The forward-looking Sports Park 2.0 has the opportunity to be practiced in Zhunan(竹南)-Toufen(頭份) Sports Park. Like trying to mend clothes while wearing them, we are restricted by the existing condition; the reduction is to show urban elegance as the needle, the aesthetics is to suture humans and nature as the thread, and the texture is the new order to weave. The multiple participation process records the practical value of overcoming the difficulty using the forward-looking spirit to transform the hardware and drive people to continue upward.

Park wall improvement

According to park design trends, the existing park wall is removed to reduce the height difference between the park and the outside, while natural materials are used to match the existing trees to create a green boundary for the park, so that people can get and feel closer to the park environment.

Jogging path surrounding the park

With multi-purpose use and maximum interpersonal communication as the main consideration, this specific design is pedestrian-oriented with the comfortable pedestrian moving line and space of the spaces both inside and outside the park, to integrate the space function along the line and improve the usage efficiency of each space (multi-purpose use). Meanwhile, each activity space returns to user-friendly, accessible, and inclusive environment planning and universal design.

Wind and rain Court

Considering the climate and environment characteristics of the twin cities and the concept of multi-purpose use, a roof is added to the existing basketball court as the people's playground or activity gathering place on rainy days. The simple and lightweight design provides a wind-made canopy to show the architectural aesthetics and create a multi-functional activity field.

Scenery public toilets

Large public toilets (including men's, women's, barrier-free, parent-child, gender-friendly, and Muslim toilets) are established to meet the needs of different user groups and the public during large-scale events in the park.

Landscape pool

The ROD (resilience) design is imported in the static water as the main spatial orientation.

ROD: To re-plan the drainage system, the design takes half the engineering water guiding and drainage system, while the landscape pool adopts the natural terrain processing technique. It is hoped that the water-loving scenery of the landscape pool can be reconstructed using the ecological engineering method, and the water environment space can be created by the diversity of the ecosystem.

Roller skating rink improvement

The old rink is demolished and a new one built next to the swimming pool in order to cater to the park's many skating communities.

Parent-child activity space optimization

Use the earthwork from landscape pool expansion to backfill the park with balance and shape a large soil slope. Use the soil slope design to create a terrain game field. Introduce integration space design orientation to provide children with amusement facilities for fun, games, and ability development. Create a multi-stimulating, spacious, safe, interactive, fun, and comfortable play environment for all children, including those with special needs.
